Alexis Cerise
Alexis Cerise is a New York City based bassoonist, pursuing her Master of Music from The Juilliard School, studying with Kim Laskowski. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Alexis received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Kentucky, studying with Peter Simpson and Dr. Allison Nicotera. Alexis is an experienced performer, having served as principal bassoon of the UK Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and Opera Orchestra for four seasons. She was the winner of the 2023 UK Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competitions, and made her solo debut with the UK Wind Symphony in the spring of 2023, and will make her orchestral solo debut with the UK Symphony Orchestra during the 2023-2024 season. In addition to large ensembles, Alexis was also heavily involved in chamber music during her time at UK.
Alexis is an avid teacher, with four years of experience building and maintaining a private studio. Her students have been selected to attend auditioned programs such as The Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts, The Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras, the Kentucky Music Educators Association honors ensembles, and numerous regional and local honor bands. At Juilliard, Alexis is a Community Engagement Fellow for the 2023-2024 school year, working as a Music Advancement Program Fellow and a Morse Teaching Artist Fellow.
In addition to performance, Alexis is also invested in music scholarship. As a mentee of Dr. Jennifer Campbell, she presented her research titled, "Tania León's entre nos: The Art of Underlying Musical Structure" at the 2022 University of Kentucky Showcase of Undergraduate Research, and gave two presentations on the same research at the 2023 National Conference on Undergraduate Research.

Teaching
Alexis started teaching during her first semester of undergrad, and established a private studio of middle and high school students in Lexington. Over the past four years, Alexis's students have successfully auditioned for programs such as The Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts, The Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras, the Kentucky Music Educators Association honors ensembles, and various regional, state, and local honor bands. At Juilliard, Alexis is continuing to develop her teaching skills as a Morse Teaching Artist Fellow and Music Advancement Program Fellow.
As a teacher, my main goal is to instill an appreciation of music and a love for the bassoon in my students. I strive to create an environment in which my students feel comfortable exploring new ideas, and feel safe to make mistakes. I emphasize fundamentals in order to give my students the best foundation possible in their playing, and give them the tools needed to practice with confidence. I want to see my students succeed and reach their musical goals.
